This is the Align RCE-BL35P 35A Brushless Electronic Speed Controller with Governor Mode.

Features:

  • BEC output voltage (5~6V) for great servo torque and speed performance
  • Three programmable throttle speed settings to support quick throttle response
  • Governor Mode (governor speed controller, slow down system)
  • Small and compact PCB design for easy installation
  • Large heatsink for great thermal performance
  • High compatibility, works with 98% of brushless motors on the market
  • Ultra smooth motor start design to run with all kinds of brushless motors
  • Japanese made "Low ESR" capacitor in order to provide a stable power source
  • T BEC power outlet adapts a Japanese made specialty polymer aluminum electrolytic capacitor offering better noise filtering capabilities than other BL ESCs in the market providing stable receiver and BEC performance
  • Users can use the transmitter to operate the motor setting by Super stylized CPU
  • If the aircraft should land or crash in an unexpected location and become lost, the pilot can enable the Aircraft Locator Option. The Aircraft Locator Option is engaged by turning off the transmitter. When the ESC does not receive a signal from the transmitter for 30 seconds, it will start to send an alarm to the motor. The sound of the alarm will aid the pilot to locate the aircraft. This option will not work with a PCM receiver that has SAVE function enabled, or with low noise resistant PM receivers.

I haven't had any problems with this ESC yet and have been running it at 80-85% throttle with the 450MX motor. The throttle response is very good and a gentle U shaped curve works well in IU. 1300 rpm is way too low of a headspeed for the T-REX 450 and it's doubtful that it would even get off the ground. Reasonable head speeds for a 450 size are between 2500-3300 rpm. Running below 80% throttle continuously is not great for any ESC and will make the motor get hotter -- especially with a higher KV motor. It's also good to know if you have the correct timing set for your motor.

Works great as long as you're nice to it, but I tried to run my T-Rex 450 FBL at low headspeed (approximately 1,300rpm) and then it became so hot that it started to powerlimit and I had to emergency land. After I landed the 3GX rebooted: Had it happened in the air, it would have probably been disaster. A few flights later it just died without warning in the air! Got to practice autorotation real quick (it went OK, lucky again). Now I was on my guard so I ran it on idle up 2 (100% throttle at the end positions, 95% at neutral pitch) just hovering and it died again after a little while, wasn't as lucky with the landing but nothing broke. Now I will be replacing the ESC (K-Force 40A). Why low headspeed? You get longer flight times and so the chatter from the blades is so nice! My 700E (on which I have Castle 120HV) works well with low headspeed regardless of how long I do it, I run it at around 1000rpm. I think modern BSCs have "active freewheeling" which makes the ESC tolerate this treatment. But this Align ESC worked after all well for 65 flights until I started messing with low headspeed.
