Here is a tip for using a losi starter box: After carefully aligning the rubber wheel with the engine flywheel, to start the engine, always push down ONLY on the engine cooling head....with your hand or while pushing down with glow ignitor on top of glowplug. The system design depends on the cars chassis flex to allow the flywheel to drop fully down against the rubber starter wheel.
If you push down on the rear shock tower instead of the engine......the chassis likely will not flex enough......and the starter wheel often won't engage the flywheel. After having difficulties in the beginning....I stumbled onto this tip while watching a losi instructional video on youtube. Now my starter box works every time!
I gave only four stars because solder joints on the motor tabs were faulty out of the box. I had to re-route wires and re-solder. Converted to use 4S lipo. Works ok now. Probably should be only three stars on this box.....but I love my 8 RTR racecar!
This is a really, really nice starter box. I was hesitant at the $90 price tag seeing as there's starter boxes with good reviews for less than half that price but I've really come to appreciate TLR's quality in the last few years. So, I sprung for it and was immediately impressed. Obviously, this is designed exclusively for the 8IGHT platform and is *NOT* a universal box. It has a very nice matte black finish and the laser etching is a really pretty touch. Among the first things I noticed about it was how light weight it is. It's the lightest box I've ever picked up. Stick a 4S LiPo pack in it and it's featherweight. Secondly, (and oddly) it does not have a bottom. The bottom of the box is completely open. The batteries are supposed to be suspended in the battery cage that's held in from the sides. Since I opted for a single 4S battery I simply took out the battery cage and velcro-ed my battery to the inside wall. It'll work just fine and since the bottom is open I won't need to open the lid to remove my battery for charging! The single motor has a gear reduction to increase torque and is then belt-driven to the starting wheel. The wheel has a very solid feel and will likely last quite awhile. The motor has *PLENTY* of RPM and torque to spin over even a brand-new motor with tons of pinch, no worries there. Again, this is a very, very nice box and (in my opinion) definitely worth the money if you value quality and ease-of-use.

I am so stoked with these starter boxes. I have one for my 8ight 3.0 Truggy, and one for my 8ight 3.0 Buggy. They work "FLAWLESSLY" with PEAK LIPO Batteris PART # Peak Racing 00571 Batteries. They fit in the supplied battery mounts. I did have to solder PRO-TEK ( deans pins in series) to complete the package. A MAIN IS HERE TO HELP YOU!!!!! (by the way, one box is capable for both truggy and buggy by a switch-of-the-switch*

regarding this starter box very good for 8ight family . but a problem is you have to convert battery connector if you using LiPo. (the only bad thing is bettery connector not user friendly ).
This starter box is excellent, I use this for my TLR truggy & buggy only thing i suggest before using especially if your a nitro racer is to convert the stock ec3 connectors to dean connectors. ...It will give you better power efficiency
