Austin Blair reflects on the2012 JConcepts off-road indoor nationals at Outback Raceway

July 31st, 2012

I attended the Jconcepts Summer indoor nationals at A Main Hobbies in Chico, California.  I arrived at 12 o’clock on Thursday to get some practice in. At first glance the track didn’t look to be difficult. After my first practice run with my 2wd, I was in shock. The track was much harder than it looked. It took me a few batteries to be able to get around the track without making any type of mistakes. The indoor track was run wet the whole time, with some make or break sections of the track. I was having some electronic issues most of the weekend and with the help of Marty, we were able to get them figured out for the last two qualifiers. Once all the qualifiers were all finished, I was in the C main for 2wd and I managed to qualify 8th in the A main for 4wd.

My first race was the C main for 2wd. Early on I was just concentrating on trying to run clean laps and get one of the two bumps spots. After a few minutes I was in one of the bump spots, but that was short lived when I landed sideways off one of the jumps and my ball cup broke and ended my race.

My 4 wheel main was a little later in the day and I was starting in the 8th position. There were some mistakes by the other drivers and I was able to capitalize and ended up finishing 5th.

Once again I had an awesome time with my fellow Amain hobbies team mates Chad, Curtis, Eric, Tyler and Zack. I can say by far we have the most fun while we’re racing.  I want to give a special thank you to Kendall, Kevin and Marty for allowing me this awesome opportunity with Amain Hobbies.

I want to say thank you to all of my sponsors; Amain Hobbies, ProTek RC, Airtronics, Castle Creations, Aka tires, Rc-Trim, Top Notch Paints.
