A Psycho Nitro Truggy Win, and Buggy TQ!!

March 25th, 2013

i-3SFKcDw-LWell Psycho Nitro Blast is over, and boy was it psycho, and a blast!! The crazy hours of practice and racing really takes a toll on your body. I was already tired from Cactus the week before, and it seemed like I didn’t get to bed till 5am everyday. The good news, I was fast from the beginning, and the cars just got better as we made some adjustments.

In Truggy, Lutz would grab the TQ, but the main was little different. I would get the leadtruggy early and battle the entire 45 minutes with Adam Drake and Barry Pettit. When I say the entire 45, I really mean the whole thing from tone to tone. Those guys really made me work for it, and it wasn’t until the last few laps that I finally started stretching out. I’m really pleased to have a win in truggy. It’s been awhile since I won a truggy event, and the truck is really good right now. We softened the shock oil and moved some weight up front, and it’s really good.

buggyIn buggy, Lutz had the TQ after the first day, but I got it away from him with two TQ runs on Saturday. Some adjustments we did to the car were paying off and I really felt comfortable going into the main. I lead the main early, but a couple mistakes would allow Lutz to get the lead from me. After Ryan took the lead, I was stuck in a battle with Drake for 2nd, and it really allowed Ryan to stretch out his lead. Once I cleared away from Adam I set my sights on Lutz, but it was too late. I cut about 13 seconds off Ryan’s lead, but didn’t have enough time to catch him and I wound up second. I really felt like I had a good car, but I think some adjustments we made to the car didn’t work well in the final. If I had it to do over, I think I would change some things.codyPNB2013

Big thank you to all my Sponsors for the support, many of whom did special things to make this happen at the last minute. Kyosho ran around and got me parts last minute to bring on the trip. Reds did so much and the R5T TE engines in both my cars were so perfect the entire time, as well as the Reds turbo #5 plug which may be the best plug in RC right now. The new 2104 pipe is very good as well, even smoother power and better fuel mileage.  Proline, thanks very much for sending tires out and getting them there by Thursday. I ran Holeshots in both classes (M3 in truggy/M4 in buggy) and they were hooked up the entire time. Even in the buggy after 45 minutes I did my fastest lap at the end of the race. Byron Fuels, thanks for the great juice. The Worlds Blend sweep at this race! A Main Hobbies, KO Propo, everyone, thanks very much.

I want to give special thanks to Tim Long for all his help this weekend wrenching and pitting, since my Dad couldn’t come out to this race. I still want to thank my Dad for getting all my stuff ready when I was at Cactus last week.  I also have to thank Alex Pilson from Reds USA and the entire Reds Racing team for the great support. It was really fun hanging out and staying at the track. I hope to make it out again next year and maybe close the deal in buggy next time!
