This past weekend I headed on over to Kennett Square, Pennsylvania to the Mushroom Bowl Hobbies for a fun weekend of racing. Due to some unforeseen circumstances the new 1/10th track that was being put in for this event wasn’t done yet. So upon arrival I pitched in a spent a few hours helping to move dirt, shape jumps, and give some input on layout. So I got to start my week off with some good exercise!
For this event I chose to race 3 buggies. 1/8th Nitro, 1/8th Electric, and 1/10th 2wd. This facility is pretty unique in that now they have 2 tracks (1/8th and 1/10th) as well as a pond where you can fish or drive r/c boats. I had the fortune of getting to pit under the Hobbico tent right next to the lake. It made for a relaxing few days having a lake view pit spot.
As for the racing I would TQ all the rounds on the 1/8th track. It was a fun layout with not much for jumps but very fast lines where you went from inside to outside through snaky type sections. There was also a corner jump which lender itself pretty good to doing some whips as demonstrated in this youtube video:
In the mains we had a bit of a delay due to some computer gremlins. This caused the program to have to be shortened a bit to accommodate the racing. So we ran single mains of 20 min for Nitro and 10 minutes for E-buggy. Also ran a 5 minute 2wd buggy main earlier in the day. I was able to take victory in all 3 classes. Before the 1/8th mains there was also a dash for cash in 1/8th Nitro where we ran top 6 driver inverted start and backwards on the track for 7 laps with no marshals. I had fun with it and got up to second and tried to pressure the leader hard as I could for 6 laps. I made a couple mistakes in there and was lucky to stay on my wheels and it made for a good show for the spectators for sure! But on the last lap I made my pass and took the win.
Overall had a great time. Also it was humbling and oh so awesome to sign a few dozen autographs for people. Also great to see so many kids racing here, boys and girls alike! Here is a photo of me with one of those youngsters!
All in all a great facility getting better all the time. Look forward to heading back in the future and seeing what all else they have done to make it even better!
Next up i’m heading to Crown Raceway in Southern Oregon this weekend for a series race. Another new track and i’m looking forward to checking it out!
